How to remove cig. smell from a/c /fan in 06 ford?

I've had many cars and I am aware of cabin filters, but never experienced a problem I have no idea why this is happening. This is my first ford had it 18 mon. and changed filter 4x. I've spent a small fortune on ALL types of stuff that improve the problem but when I turn on A/C or fan the first few minutes gag me. I've cleaned in vents ,air intakes but without any time of just not being aware of it. I've been looking at cars lately and I want to know if this is specific for my model so I won't repeat and maybe get another Ford? Even the guarenteed Vamoose failed.
