My husband was charged with child neglect and dependency for voluntarily giving up his rites to his son from?

a previous marriage. His ex had given the child up to DHS and he was not financially able at the time to gain custody of him. My 5 year old has missed alot of days of school because of family emergency's sickness etc. The school has informed me that they have called DHS and that they are doing an investigation on Educational Neglect. ( He is also required to attend speech therapy through the school for his speech apraxia) Will my husbands charge effect the outcome of the investigation. What is going to happen? I have never gone through this before and I am scared. Can DHS go to my child's school and take him? Some one please help ASAP. Thank you.
