How often should i bathe a dog?

I have a yorkshire terrier and he has longer hair but not not very long. I know i shouldn't wash it with human shampoo but i dont know how often i should wash my adorable black and brown puppy. I feed him purina and they say that it makes their hair shiny so i ume... anyway how often should i bathe a dog?
